Acne Treatments for Adults

by Linda Gladhill

Most people believe that acne is a teenage problem and that will clear up after adolescence, however, they're in for a shocker once they're 35 and pimply. In fact, there are several adults that currently suffer from occasional pimples and acne break outs.

The biggest difference between adult and adolescent acne is that adult acne is sporadic and usually associated to stress and hormonal problems. As for adult acne solutions, they are quite similar to teenage acne solutions but may also include hormone therapy.

Acne Skin Care: Taking Care of Adult Skin

By the time you are in your twenties, you should have a skin cleansing routine. This special skin care routine should help keep your skin free from bacteria, excess oil and dead skin cells, although for most people, maintaining a regular cleansing routine is enough to keep acne under control.

An example of a basic cleansing routine includes: cleansing, toning and moisturizing daily and exfoliating once a week. Prefer products that are effective yet soothing for your skin type. This may require a bit of trial and error on your part, but it will be worth it in the long run.

A Different Type of Solution: Hormone Treatments

Because several adults suffer from hormonal acne, it is quite logical to think that hormone treatment is a good acne treatment. The idea behind hormone therapy is to regulate hormones that are directly linked to the development acne, in other words, androgens. This is a serious type of treatment that requires full medical supervision, so if you are interested you should consult with your doctor.

Spironolactone

Spironolactone is a synthetic steroid product that binds to the body's androgen receptors. This action helps keep androgens from binding to the cells' receptors and inhibits 5-alpha-reductase activity while also helping reduce androgen biosynthesis. More studies need to be done to get a better picture of its results.

Oral Contraceptives

OCs are quite useful because they have a direct effect on how much androgen the body produces. This is possible because they contain estrogen and progestins. Estrogens are responsible for the production of adrenal and ovarian androgens. They can also reduce the amount of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which can lower the levels of DHT.

Progestins, on the other hand, vary their androgenic or testosterone-like activity. Which, in essence, means that their effect on acne can be variable. If you are trying to control acne, it is best to use progestins with the lowest androgenic activity.

Natural Acne Solutions

Natural acne products are the best the solution for anyone trying to treat sensitive skin. Products such as honey, tea tree oil and aloe vera can have dramatic effects on acne outbreaks, but there are still other natural ingredients that have proven to be much more effective.

BIOSKINFORTE offers an effective adult acne treatment. Acne products such as this one are made with a very potent natural ingredient that can help you get rid of acne safely and effectively. What's the secret ingredient? Snail serum.
