Treating Mature Skin with Natural Skin Care Products

by Cynthia Alleyne

If you're hanging on to the same skin care routine you had when you were a teenager then you need a reality check. Aging doesn't only mean you'll get more wrinkles, looser skin, or age spots, it also means that you need to find a special type of product that is both gentle on your skin and effective enough to actually treat the signs of aging.

A very effective type of treatment is combining natural skin care products along with a healthier lifestyle to keep your skin looking younger without leading to irritation. This is a great way to counteract some of the effects of aging because natural products generally contain fewer amounts of harsh chemical ingredients and a healthier lifestyle implies eating better, avoiding excessive sun exposure and moderating your consumption of alcohol and caffeine.

Antioxidants: Your New Best Friend

Antioxidant skin care is a great starting point for your mature skin. Constant exposure to UV radiation, pollution, and smoking will produce free radicals which destroy your skin cells. With the help of antioxidants you can actually help neutralize their effect and slow down the aging process.

This is why it's important to get antioxidants from every natural source you can find, including foods. As a matter of fact, antioxidant skin creams are a much needed addition to your skin care routine.

Berries are the best kinds of fruits. Blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are high in antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and fiber.

In fact, these fruits are a very common addition to a number of skin care products. Sometimes they are accompanied by other amazing ingredients such as Vitamin E and Vitamin C and antioxidant serums.

Moderate your UV Exposure

UV exposure leads to free radicals, which are lead to the destruction of healthy cells. To avoid this, you should moderate the time you spend in the sun. Even though you may think that a tan gives your skin a healthy glow, it is considered sun damage.

You must get into the habit of using sunscreen when you go outdoors. You'll simply need to choose a sunscreen that has SPF30 or higher. Once you've put on the sunscreen, reapply often to maintain the product's protection level.

Protective clothing can also help keep your skin shielded from the sun. Wear wide-brimmed hats and long sleeved shirts in a light weight fabric. And don't forget to use sunglasses to protect your eyes for UV radiation as well.

Homemade Products

Natural skin care products can also be homemade. This isn't a chore for everyone, but if you're interested you can find all kinds of great ingredients in your refrigerator, pantry and garden.

Egg whites, for example, are excellent for tightening the skin. Just beat an egg white until it is frothy. Then apply, let dry, and wash off with a moist washcloth.

Milk can also be used to help tighten loose skin or as a natural exfoliant for people with very dry skin.

Sun damaged skin is one of the signs of aging. BIOBEAUTYBALM is a great complement to your sunscreen as it contains ingredients that absorb UV rays. BIOBEAUTYBALM is made with snail serum which makes this healing balm a great antioxidant cream that can safely be used to treat all skin types.
