Reading Dog Information Can Save Your Canine's Life

by Brigitte Smith

At this point when most of us are placing much emphasis on health and wellness, many dog owners still tend to disregard making informed dog food choices. This is not surprising to know because on a daily basis, unsuspecting dog owners are presented with visually interesting advertisements by various dog food brands claiming that their products are veterinary recommended or 100% natural balance dog food. With these dizzying choices, probably by now you're wondering where you should get the right information about your pet's food. However, if you are only attentive enough to read the label of your canine's food, you'll definitely gain basic education as to what you're feeding your dog.

The first thing that you would notice on dog information label is the so called general display information that contains the dog food brand name. You would also find in here the benefits class information, which as its name implies denotes the benefits that your dog will receive once he or she eat such dog food, this may include hair maintenance, nutrition level, weight loss and so on. It is also within the information that you will find the canine class information which would give you the idea about what canine age and category you should fed such dog food; whether it is appropriate for puppies or adult canines. The basic information also tackles the quantity of dog food product.

The next dog information incorporated either at the side or back of commercial dog food products is usually ingredient specific. Here, you will find the general analysis of protein and fat contained in the dog food as well as the water and fiber contents. Try to make sure that your dog food choice has the right amount of phosphorous; remember that too much phosphorous may result to renal failure which could immediately end the life of your furry friend. As much as possible, stay away from dog food products that have ingredients that says animal by-products, fillers such as corn, artificial color and flavorings as these could jeopardize the health of your dog. Sadly though, almost all commercial brands contain these ingredients, and often they are major ingredients in the food.

Because most commercial dog food brands contain almost the same information, some of which are just copies of other brands, it is still hard to find the right brand for your pet. On this note, settling for something that is all natural or organic can be the perfect solution for your dog food issues. Currently, more and more dog owners realize the benefits of feeding their pets with organic dog food products. As a matter of fact, many veterinarians could testify about the ability of natural dog food products to lessen the risks of health issues ranging from allergies to cancer.

Natural dog food products also have dog information labels that display significant information about their ingredients the same way as their commercial dog food counterparts does. But if you would compare the ingredient contents of these products, you can easily point out the differences in many aspects. As commercial dog food products contain preservatives and other synthetic items to improve their tastes and smell, natural food products rely on human-grade ingredients, such as quality meat and vegetables. From here, you could easily point out the advantage of natural dog food products over commercial dog food products which are compounded with preservatives and synthetic additives that could poison your pet's body. Natural is not necessarily equivalent to organic, but both natural and organic are by far preferable to the commercial brands that are comprised largely of over processed foods, grains and additives.

Before you settle for organic dog food however, make sure that your choice is made by a trusted company. It is always safe to be sure; with all the buzz and outcry going on against commercial dog food products, you'll never know if the companies behind these dog food brands have also ventured towards natural dog food. A little research is always a good means to become an informed dog owner. At the end of the day, your attentiveness toward details will benefit you and your pet in so many ways.

Before you pick a pack of natural balance dog food, make sure to read the dog information written either at the back or side of the package to know if the ingredients it contains are appropriate for your pet's diet. However, if you really want to be safe, you may want to introduce your dog to organic dog food which is made from all natural and human grade ingredients.
